(2. April 1974., Mezőcsát – )
Attila Farkas was born into a gypsy family with 7 children. He became an orphan in 1982, graduated from primary school in Csepel, and took the final examination at the Dugonics András Secondary School in 1995. He attended the journalist training programme at the Independent Media Centre in 2001, and worked as an intern for the gypsy press centre from 2002 to 2004. In 2002 and 2003 he won the Szegő András prize for doing radio reports with socially handicapped people. He settled down in Budapest.
He has been deeply interested in painting and graphics since 1995. His expressive, abstract works of art are inspired by his inner world. His first exhibition was in 1995 at Dugonics András Secondary School, then he had one at the Technical University in 1996, then in 1997 at Kossuth Club and at the Culture House of Kiskőrös. In 2004 he presented his newest pieces of work at the Gypsy Minority Local Government of the 5th district. In 2006 he participated in the gypsy artists’ creative camp. His works can be found in the collections of the Roma Parliament and the Gypsy House and also in the R-club of the Technical University.
