(13. January 1973., Komló –)
László Jovánovics was born in Komló in a family of five. His talent was first spotted by his elementary school drawing teacher, Lívia Ladányi. In that period he worked with tempera and walnut stain and entered various contests with great success. The Museum of Ethnography purchased one of his paintings. Then he found his master in
paintress Teréz Orsós, who lived in Komló like himself. She often provided him with all the material necessary for creation and took him to exhibitions. He learnt the subtleties of painting as well as oil painting technique from her. She introduced him to other Gypsy artists as well, and that is how he became a memberof Pécs’s Romany Society for general and cultural education.
Since his first show organised in Komló in 1999, he has been exhibiting countrywide, including frequent locations like Pécs, Székesfehérvár, Vásárosnamény and Budapest. In 2000, his artworks were displayed in the Museum of Ethnography. He joined the Gypsy House summer workshops and their exhibitions in 2003 and has been an active member ever since. His paintings can be seen in the public arts collection of the Gypsy House, the permanent exhibition of Pécs’s Rácz Aladár Community Centre, Gandhi Secondary School and at the Department of Roma Studies of the University of Pécs.
