SZEMADÁM, György
painter, writer
(25 October, 1947, Budapest - ) 1967-75: keeper, later head keeper of big carnivores at the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden. From 1968: exhibiting artist - until 2005 he had 46 independent exhibitions in Hungary and in foreign countries (Wien, Prague, Moscow). Since 1978 publishes lots of critiques of fine arts, films and photos, cultural historical and art theoretic essays, publications, opens exhibitions and holds lectures on different subjects. 1979-93 heads creative camps and circles for children and for adults, holds other classes of fine arts, works in the National Institution of Psychotherapy as art-therapist, heads the creative classes of disadvantaged children in family-helping centres. 1982-93 teacher of the GYIK Workshop in the Hungarian National Gallery, from 1988 he's the head of it. 1997-99 general editor of the Hungarian Television's Visual Arts Editorial Office.

1996: first prize on the exhibition 'Artistic cards - fate cards'
1996: extra prize on the exhibition 'In memoriam 1956'
1997: Hungarian Republic's Order's Knight-Cross
1999: an episode of his series '(H)arc-képek' wins festival-award in the category of studio-snapshot on the Television Film Festival of Kamera Hungaria
2000: his film, 'The lost Paradise' wins extra prize on the Fine Art's Film Festival in Szolnok
2000: on the exhibition 'Corpus regni' he wins the award of the Szinyei Merse Pál Society
2001: Munkácsy-award
2003: Artistic Pedagogical Award of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and the Hungarian Cultural Institution
