VÁRNAGY, Ildikó

Between 1968 and 1979 Várnagy taught at technical schools, the GYÍK workshop of the Hungarian National Gallery, and the Kassák Club is Zugló. She participated in the work of the Colony of Artists in Zalaegerszeg between 1977 and 1982, then again, in 1998, the colony of graphic artists in Makkó from 1977 to 1982, the colony of artists in Győr between 1983 and 1992, and the creative ceramic colony of Siklós from 1984 to 1998. She has been a member of the Society of Hungarian Sculptures since 1995. Besides her work as a fine artist she organizes and directs exhibitions, and regularly publishes. Alongside her wide range usage and working of materials, utilization of a wide range of techniques, altering of traditional art forms, and crossing over genre borders, her work is characterized by a very varied design. Besides turning everyday elements of life and discovered objects into works of art, the act of autonomic artistic creation also receives a prominent role in her work. Her art is synthesized at the boundary between genuine reality and the reality of abstractions, through the imperative demand for the elimination of such boundaries, with the fixed intent of creating an appropriate sign system. Works such as medallions, statuettes, figurines, monumental plastic art pieces, objects, interior designs, graphics and aquarelles are produced to this day in her workshop.
