Supermarket Gallery is pleased to present Björn Behrens’ solo exhibition Based on Promise, featuring three of his most recent photo series. The exhibition runs from 7th May through 10th June 2016. The opening reception will take place on Friday 6th May 2016, from 7 pm.
My work deals with the essential characteristics of photography that are staying in relation to itself and against itself. The orientation in the dark is difficult, it exacts/demands more focus, I have to depend on my senses. I only work at night. I am hunting/searching for/chasing the truth, but this hunting is nothing to do with the press of the trigger. The images are manifestations of the reality behind the reality. (Björn Behrens)
Behrens plays with simultaneous attraction and repulsion in his works. That is seen in the different light sources in his series Visible Light (2014- 2016), the green exit light in an empty exhibition space where we can see our reflection in the photograph in Based on Truth II (2014-2016) or a fake promise in a window sticker from a casino in the photos of NY (2016). All these images are playing with our senses. What is behind the darkness is tempting but dangerous at the same time. We cannot clearly see it. Because it is just a Promise.
Björn Behrens (b. 1976 Bremen, Germany) was educated in Bremen where he received a diploma in fine arts. Behrens had solo shows in galleries in Bremen and Brussels and his photographs have been exhibited in numerous group exhibitions in Germany. Based on Promise is his first solo exhibition in Budapest, Hungary.
