“Ha azt látod, hogy vintage ruhaboltok jelennek meg a környékeden, az azt jelenti, hogy hamarosan el kell költöznöd”. Summázza tapasztalatait egy helyi lakos, akinek nemsokára szintén mennie kell. Nincs hova ágálni, a városi együttélés játékszabályait egyre inkább alakítják lenyomozhatatlan külföldi befektetők, arctalan nagyvállalatok vagy top-down bürokraták. Mint a természet, ezek az erők is részvételnek az egyéni sorsok iránk. A tőzsdei indexek, statisztikák és kalkulusok világa nem számol azoknak a kötődésevel, akiket felszámol, kijjebb tol vagy lecserél a hatalmi érdek. Pedig a lakhatás alapvető emberi jog, ami nélkül a „jó élet” elképzelhetetlen, mégis egyre szűkösebbnek bizonyul mai társadalmunkban a biztonság, az otthon vagy a nyugalom érzése.
Az a lehetőség, hogy az értelem mellett az érzelmek szerepét is fontolóra vegyük, akár a döntéshozásban, tervezésben vagy a történelem alakulásában, sokáig fel sem merült. Manapság egyre inkább lehetünk tanúi annak, hogy ez a tabu megdől és elkezdünk a világról a közös érzelmeink mentén gondolkodni. A bolygó jövője iránti aggodalmunkra a „klímaszorongás” szót használjuk, és hasonlóképpen kerülünk szembe olyan érzelmekkel mint az elmúlt idők felett érzett szomorúság, a növekvő jólét keltette boldogság, a fejlődő technológia iránti csodálat vagy a “maradj csak és folytasd, amit csinálsz” nyugalma. És ma tehetjük ezt anélkül, hogy bárki ránksütné az irracionalitás bélyegét.

„If you see that vintage clothing stores are taking over your neighborhood, it means you’ll have to leave soon.” This is a piece of common sense wisdom gathered by a local resident who stayed firm as an anchor over the years. He’ll most probably have to leave as well. Whom can you address your anger, despair in face of these uprooting life events? The rules of co-habitation in the city are laid down in an ever growing extent by vetted interests, faceless multinational firms, the financial market or top-down bureaucrats. Like nature, these agents of change know nothing of compassion or sympathy towards the individuals whose fate they’re affecting. The realm of stock market, statistics and metrics tend not to calculate with the economies of affect and belonging. (Except in politics and media, where they are exploited for populist endeavors.) Even though housing is a basic human right, without which the concept of „good life” is unthinkable, it proves to be a scarce resource in today’s society to provide safety, security or the feeling of home.
To pose the question „what does it feel like?” used to come second after arguments based on our most highly valued human asset, reason. Emotions reckoned as a female quality, thus stigmatized as irrational or against reason has been long disregarded by historians, scientists and architects alike. There seems to be a historical moment to reassess the role of emotions on the stage of history, and structure our thinking in the terms of the „emotive turn”. We have already begun to speak about the future of our planet as „eco-anxiety” and in the same manner, other aspects of life come to fall under emotive signs as awe (towards technological progress), fear (of terrorism) or happiness (if welfare delivers).
