SHARED MEMORY
Exhibition of Ludmila Hrachovinová and Roman Bicek
Individual experience vs a historical fact.
On one hand, usage of the personal experience. Memories which have been shaped and have been already manipulated by our own perception and limitation of objectivity of remembering, into something else and are not representing the real facts any more. Working with emotional traces of the past and experiences as well as looking for own individual symbols. This way we can describe Ludmila Hrachovinova’s approach to her own art practice. She is looking for different ways of perceptions of looking at the things, emphasizing individual approach and experience.
On the other hand, memories which are in the form of the facts that, have been captured on photography, written down, or exist as aphorisms. This is the way how Roman Bicek is working with memories and historical facts in his art practise. He interwinds personal memories with images captured on photography linking them with political and historical issues. By working with a variety of images as evidence, pictures from the newspaper, magazines, historical books, advertisement, texts, notes, Roman is creating his own vocabulary.
For the exhibition in Műtő Gallery, Ludmila Hrachovinova and Roman Bicek are going to collaborate and create an installation concerning this topic, in which they will compare these two ways of looking and working with the past. They will make interactive installation, based on paintings and objects.
Ludmila Hrachovinova is an artist based in Bratislava and Stockholm. She is part of the artist run collective running The Hotdock Project Space in Bratislava, Slovakia. She graduated at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm in 2017 and at the Art Academy of Fine Art and Design in Bratislava in 2008. Her art practise focuses predominantly on the medium of painting with additional usage of installation, sculpture and performance.
Roman Bicek lives and works in Bratislava, he is part of the HotdockProject Space artist run gallery. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Art and Design in 2008. Roman works mainly with the medium of painting drawing and collage. He is interested in comparing the relationships between the individual components of the creative process and their hegemony, which is often bound to their aesthetic value. By including the whole process of art production in the final exhibition his work aims to reveals the labour behind the work to the audience. Consequently the boarders between the preparatory work and the final product are blurred.
